What glorious sunshine. It's bringing on the brown patches in the lawn a treat.

Your posts brighten up my day nearly as much as the sunshine, I love a good chuckle.

Dear Ms Weed,

How very kind. I've taken a look at your 'blog', and you appear to be a very experienced gardener, a sort of Bob Flowerdew of Thanet. Do you have any suggestions for the brown spots, or is it really a case of having to re-turf?

Regards,

Tam

As the dreaded Weedol only affect the grass itself, not the soil, you may get away with a good raking and some seed. All is not lost! Seed is much cheaper and easier on the back than turf.... the savings can be considered as 'beer chit's'!

Thanks for the advice Mr Nethercourt, I'll give it a go.

As for Mr Ted, I'm happy enough with the Molicares at the moment, but thanks anyway.

Only jesting old fellow.

As for the grass problem,Weedol contains diquat and paraquat and although inactive in subsoil it leaves a film on the surface which will kill any seedlings.

The best thing to do is replace the affected areas with new turf, should not be to much money, but best in the long run.

I am glad Nethercourt gave his opinion as I may love gardening but that is very different to knowing anything. And I am afraid that I think of lawns as 'a man thing' anyway. (I think that my pc is playing up again.)

No need to be so sensitive, Mr Ted, I was also jesting about the Molicares. Although now you mention it, I do occasionally feel a bit of a drip since the prostate op.
